SHOREVIEW, Minn. -- At 9-years-old Jet Feirn has his future all planned.
"Snowboard in the Olympics when I'm maybe 20-years-old," Jet said Tuesday afternoon.
Kids dream big like that.
It's what makes them great.
But Jet is only beginning to learn why his dream is so cool.
"When I went into labor his heart rate dropped so he was delivered emergency and he was only 3 pounds, 11 ounces," Jet's mom, Kerry Feirn said.
Less than 4 pounds with a heart defect called Tetrology of Fallot.
That meant Jet had 4 abnormalities which would mean two open heart surgeries before kindergarten.
It's a battle scar now that has formed a bond Jet is desperate to make good on.
Shaun White was born with the exact same thing and Jet thinks Shaun White is the coolest person on the planet.
"He's so innocent and sweet and oblivious and he wrote this letter to him (Shaun) and I said well, I'll try to get it to him and he's like so then he will come over?," Kerry said when explaining the letter Jet wrote to Shaun telling him how much he idolized him and that he and Jet both had Tetrology of Fallot.
"I have heart surgery just like him and he snowboards," Jet said when asked about why he wrote the letter.
It's a logical connection.
One Jet rides with everyday in his backyard snow park with his brother Cooper.
So far Jet's friend request has gone unanswered.
It's been a little more than a year since Kerry mailed it off.
But Jet won't give up, his battered heart knows better.
