ELK RIVER, Minn. - An eastbound train and a westbound train smashed into a car in Elk River on Tuesday. Fortunately, no one was injured.
According to the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred aroun 5:15 p.m. between a Northstar commuter train and car at Highway 10 and Jackson Avenue. Police say the train crossing lights are arms were working but the driver tried to get around the crossing arms. All three people, the female driver and two male passengers, escaped from the car without injury.
As a result of the collision, the Northstar train service has been delayed.
Authorities say buses will replace the commuter trains from Elk River to St. Cloud and Elk River to Minneapolis.
The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office says more details on train replacement buses will be released later.
This was the second Northstar train-car crash in Elk River this week. A woman and her baby were unhurt after their car was hit by a Northstar train in Elk River on Monday morning.
