PIPE, Wis. - A Fond du Lac man has speared the largest sturgeon so far this season.

The fish weighs 148 pounds and is 74.6 inches long.

Don Feldner tells The Reporter Media that it is his first sturgeon in 19 years. He says his father once caught a 106-pound sturgeon and his son, Ryan, caught a 90-pound fish. But Feldner says he's now "got them beat by a lot."

He says he thinks his father would be proud.

Feldner caught his fish Sunday on Lake Winnebago.

The Department of Natural Resources is ending the spearing season on some Fox Valley lakes where the adult female limit has been reached. DNR biologist Ryan Koenigs says spearing will likely end on the larger Lake Winnebago in the next few days.
