MINNEAPOLIS – After 37 years Apple retailer FirstTech is closing its stores in Uptown and Rochester. The company announced the March 29 closure late Wednesday night.
FirstTech, which began as a company that sold electronics out of a van, is the oldest Apple dealer in the world.
But competing with the major retail chains has been tough on the company according to Product Manager Fred Evans. "It feels like a death in the family," Evans told KARE 11.
A statement on their website says, "Over the last two years in particular, the market changes in our industry have been rapid and dramatic. Competition has increased and margins have decreased making it more and more difficult to run our business profitably and still provide the high level of service we are known for."
FirstTech has two locations in Uptown and Rochester, Minn. The Rochester store closed on Wednesday.
